North Penn High School (NPHS), home of International Thespian Troupe 5464 has been invited to present their production of A Midsummer Night's Dream directed by Andrea Roney and Debra Buckner at the nation's leading high school theatre festival in Nebraska this summer.
North Penn Theatre's distinguished legacy continues as their production of A Midsummer Night's Dreamhas been chosen to be one of 11 schools from United States and Canada, that have been or are being adjudicated this fall and will be adjudicated in the spring, to be a main stage production at the International Thespian Festival in 2019 at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.
Last fall, A Midsummer Night's Dream was not only performed by NPHS Theatre students for the North Penn community, but also at the Pennsylvania State Thespian Conference, hosted by NPHS, where it was performed to much acclaim on the evening of November 30, 2018 for over 1,000 Thespian delegates and their directors from across the state. That " States" performance was also adjudicated by representatives from the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA), parent to the International Thespian Society, as one of dozens of other productions from the United States and Canada for an invitation to perform at the International Thespian Festival at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln in June 2019.
The International Thespian Festival, (ITF) produced by the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA), celebrates student achievement in the performing arts. The 56th event, which this year takes place from June 24 through 29, brings together more than 4,000 high school drama students and their teachers for a weeklong immersion in workshops; interaction with colleges, industry leaders, and Broadway professionals; and opportunities to be inspired by the best high school theatre in the nation.
The highly coveted invitation signals achievement of superior work in theatre according to EdTA's Director of Educational Programs Nancy Brown. " It is a real honor," she explains, " because we send screening teams out all across the U.S. and Canada during the school year and only 11 schools will be selected to present their shows on the main stage. These Thespian troupes have earned a slot among those honored few."
NPHS Thespian Troupe 5464 and co-directors Andrea Roney and Debra Buckner will be busy this spring preparing the spring musical, Mamma Mia! while continuing to polish and perfect A Midsummer Night's Dream, all while working hard to fundraise for the trip to Nebraska in June. The NPSD wishes them the best of luck and congratulations.
